What this list covers

A first game away from home is easiest where a page says beginners are welcome. Sentrum Sjakklubb's free tournaments at Grønland have had a separate group for beginners; Akademisk Sjakklubb Oslo has offered Monday evenings that open with a short tactics lesson; Offerspill combines teaching and play at Majorstuen Seniorarena; at Romsås, Groruddalen sjakklubb welcomes anyone who turns up.

Children who are new to the game can try Rustad Sjakk, Haugerud Sjakkforening or Vålerenga's youth club, and the outdoor days in Olafiagangen and Vaterlandsparken were meant for passers-by. Bekkestua library's monthly hobby evening is aimed at beginners and hobby players.
